After a busy weekend which included the LASA [JCU Latin American Student Association] semestral party on Friday [packed as usual!], a lively workshop with Tony BachataWhisperer Lara, and Movimiento April Latin Dance Party on Saturday; the term commences for real on Monday April 20.
A few changes to the schedule:
Monday classes are now for Beyond Beginners and upwards, not absolute beginners, focused on both Salsa Cubana & Rueda de Casino, still at the same times.
Friday classes are now 6.00pm for Beginners & 6.45pm for Beyond Beginners, will focus on partnered Salsa Cubana, and are the prerequisite levels before learning Rueda on Mondays [if you cannot make Fridays, talk to Bernadette about private lessons to bring you up to speed for Mondays]
Tuesdays sees the addition of a beginner level of Nomadica Tribal Belly Dance at 6.00pm, open Tribal class at 7.00pm, and Zouk is now at 8.00pm.
Thursdays we have 6.00pm Bachata and 7.00pm Tango, [with a special deal if you do both]. African Drumming class moves to 8.00pm, while the dancers head to the Basement Bar for our weekly Mostly Tango social. The social is free and everyone is welcome to come and practice the moves you learn in Tango class!
If you’re looking to improve your tone, strength, and flexibility [and therefore your dancing!], I highly recommend Sebastien’s Pilates classes on Tuesdays at 5.00pm and Saturdays at 10.00am. These are casual one hour classes which you can join in any week, and a bargain at $12 casual or $10 with your Movimiento dance card. Bring a yoga mat if you have one, or we have a few spares. Sebastien is a contemporary and classically trained dancer as well as a Pilates instructor, so be prepared to be worked hard at your individual level, helped along by soothing music and his great French/Colombian accent!
